Project GloBAL in the Caribbean

Project GlOBAL in the Caribbean:

Project GloBAL’s main partner for the Caribbean assessment is WIDECAST, the Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation Network.  The regional team will be guided by a steering committee with regional expertise in fisheries and the taxa of interest.  Project GloBAL will also forge links with regional fisheries bodies such as the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM), FAO and academic institutions such as the University of the West Indies.

Initial reviews suggest that information on bycatch of air-breathing vertebrates is limited in many territories in the region.  To address this issue, one of the first objectives of Project GloBAL and its collaborators is to prepare a summary report of the existing bycatch data for the Caribbean region. We anticipate that the information gaps so identified will be useful in guiding regional priorities to mitigate and manage bycatch.
