International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC) Symposium

We ended Project GloBAL with a capstone symposium at the First International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC) entitled “Science, activism, knowledge, and policy: The ingredients and challenges to reducing fisheries bycatch.”

Several of our international collaborators gave presentations and served as expert panelists. This symposium tackled the fundamental topics of community involvement, addressing data gaps, international bycatch policies, and the role of bycatch research, and provided a clear message on the importance of integrating these different approaches to effectively reduce fisheries bycatch of vulnerable wildlife species. We plan to submit a review article that highlights the key points of the symposium and are working with a professional videographer to post the entire symposium on the Project GloBAL website.
