We would like to invite all bycatch investigators to participate in this project. We are focusing on regional activities with the aim of generating or fostering discussion among regional researchers to discuss current bycatch issues, identify data gaps and urgent needs within their regions, and come up with novel approaches of how to analyze multiple datasets across taxa and fisheries in relation to oceanographic features at different scales. As a part of these regional activities, we are interested in hosting technical workshops to offer expertise in database management, and statistical, population and geospatial analysis and modeling. We are also working to connect donors with regional bycatch investigators. This project takes a large-scale perspective, so we aim to aggregate bycatch analyses regionally rather than focusing at the national level. In this way, project collaborators will be provided an opportunity to integrate their research into a larger spatial context.
